Big Game viewing in South Africa with Lawson's: for an authentic,
truly memorable safari experience!

Since 2007, with the arriMale Lion, Sabi Sand Game Reserve.val of Leon Marais at Lawson’s, we’ve been steadily expanding into the more general-interest safari, the type of experience that suits those keen not only on the big mammals but also the little things that make up the wild as we know it. So if you want to see Lions, Leopards, Elephants and so forth but still want to have time to stop and enjoy the sight of a colony of Dwarf Mongooses sunning themselves on a termite mound, a stunning Lilac-breasted Roller perched next to the road or a fiery sunset over the savannah, then Lawson’s is perfect for you. Our ideal safari experience comprises at least six nights, split between the world-famous Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, one of the best places in the world for viewing and photographing wild predators such as Leopard, Lion and Spotted Hyaena. This balance between the national park and a private lodge offers the best of both worlds, creating a comprehensive and authentic safari experience that just can’t be beat. We can arrange tours for groups, we can arrange tours for couples and families, we can tailor them to suit your specific interests and we can give you the wildlife experience of a lifetime. For an idea of what to expect on a Lawson’s safari have a look at some of the trip reports on our ‘On tour with Lawson’s Page’. You’ll want to return to Africa with us time and time again!

A basic itinerary could include four nights in the Kruger National Park, split between two of the southern rest camps such as Skukuza and Satara, followed by two to four nights at a private lodge in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Other options include arriving and departing via Kruger / Mpumalanga International Airport, which cuts down significantly on travelling time to and from Johannesburg.Male Leopard, Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Tour in brief
Best time to visit: game viewing is at its very best during the dry months, from June to October, with October the prime month, but any time of the year will provide a rewarding experience.

Expected weather conditions:  warm to hot in summer, possible afternoon thunderstorms. Cool to mild and dry during winter.

Tour tempo:  medium to medium-plus, optional mid-day breaks on non-travelling days (advisable in the hotter areas).

Accommodation standards : medium to high: upmarket private lodges and National Park's rest-camps.

Mammal viewing: excellent, especially in the private reserves, where big cat sightings are TRULY SUPERB!

"Many thanks to Leon, Jason and the team for brilliant animal sightings and a holiday that has surpassed expectations" - Ivor and Serena, October 2009
