Lawson's have been running wildlife-based tours throughout Southern Africa since 1990, with an emphasis on small groups of 2 to 15 participants.
We have special expertise, experience and knowledge in birds, mammals, botany, dragonflies, butterflies and photography, and these are the main focus of our business.
All tour participants receive a detailed species checklist and comprehensive trip report upon completion of the tour (please allow some time for compilation).
Transport comes in the form of seven-seater (including guide) air-conditioned Volkswagen Microbuses (or similar). All ages are accommodated and included on any tour and family groups are most welcome.
Lawson's strive to find the very best accommodation options within the given budget, and these usually include National Park rest camps, Nature Reserve camps, private guest houses, country inns and hotels, and quaint Bed & Breakfast establishments.
Quoted prices are inclusive of accommodation, meals, ground transport costs, Park entry fees, specialist guide fees, bottled water while in transit, and personal species checklists and itineraries.
Quoted prices exclude all flights, personal travel insurance, bar bills, gratuities and other items of a personal nature.
While we are happy to plan a trip to any preferred destinations, we do have a selection of areas that we visit regularly. These include:
-
The world-famous Kruger National Park - a 20 000 square kilometre wildlife haven in the north-east of South Africa (145 species of mammals, 115 species of reptiles, 45 species of freshwater fish and 490 species of birds!).
-
The Soutpansberg and Limpopo Valley - a vast region of mountain chains and arid savannah that includes major wildlife regions such as Mapungubwe National Park and the Tuli Block of Botswana.
-
Zululand and Northern KwaZulu-Natal - including the famous reserves such as Mkhuze and Ndumo Game Reserves and the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site.
-
Wakkerstroom - located in the grasslands of the interior plateau and one of the country's top birding towns, especially for rare grassland endemics such as Rudd's and Botha's Larks, Yellow-breasted Pipit and Blue Korhaan.
-
Dullstroom and the Mpumalanga Highlands - at over 2000 metres above sea-level, one of the country's highest towns and an endemics hot-spot.
-
The Cape Province - including Cape Town, one of the world's most beautiful cities, and the unique birds and scenery of the arid Karoo.
- The Garden Route - a scenic wonderland and mosaic of wetlands, lagoons and forests.
